The OVERTAKE Transmission Mount Insert Kit for the Subaru 2002-2021 WRX and 2004-2008 Forester XT fills the open voids in your factory transmission mount with a molded 65A polyurethane insert, cutting the play the stock bushing allows without replacing the mount. The factory mount stays in the car, so you get most of the benefit of a stiffer mount for a fraction of what a full replacement costs.  That vague spot in the shifter and the bucking you feel as the clutch takes up both trace back to the same piece of rubber.

The Details:

The usual fix for a sloppy transmission mount is to throw the mount away and bolt in a replacement with stiffer bushings, which works, and which also runs into the hundreds of dollars before you have touched anything else on the car. We went after the same problem from the other direction. The play is not coming from the mount itself, it is coming from the open voids molded into the factory bushing, so our insert is shaped to fill those voids and take the free motion out of the assembly. Durometer was the real decision. We landed on 65A rather than something harder because a solid or near-solid mount sends transmission whine straight into the floor, and 65A keeps enough deflection in the system to stop that while still pinning the gearbox down. It is also soft enough to work into place by hand, and a packet of silicone lubricant ships in the box so the polyurethane slides in without tearing on the edges of the mount. Plan on 20 to 30 minutes with hand tools on any of the manual cars this fits, and nothing about the install is permanent if you ever want the original feel back.
